Masseto is one of Italy’s most iconic Merlot-based wines, renowned for its rare depth, precision, and unmistakable sense of place. The 2022 vintage stands out for its powerful concentration and freshness, shaped by a challenging season that ultimately preserved balance and elegance. From the famed blue clay slopes of Bolgheri, it continues a legacy that has made Masseto a benchmark for world-class Tuscan wine.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Masseto 2022 shows a vivid deep red color with remarkable intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, offering ripe cherry, blackberry, and plum, followed by dried herbs, warm spices, dark cocoa, and a subtle earthy nuance. A distinctive mineral character runs through the aromatics, adding refinement and lift. On the palate, the wine is rich, dense, and full-bodied, with finely woven tannins and impressive length. Despite its power, it retains a striking sense of freshness and energy, with the vintage’s cool nights helping preserve aromatic purity and bright acidity. The finish is long and complex, leaving notes of saline minerality, bitter herbs, and red cherry. This is a wine with excellent aging potential and will continue to evolve beautifully over many years in bottle.

Viininvalmistus
Masseto 2022 is made entirely from Merlot grown on the estate’s prized Pliocene blue clay soils in Bolgheri, Tuscany, a terroir known for giving the wine its signature density, structure, and mineral depth. The growing season was marked by intense heat and a prolonged dry spell, followed by timely August rain that helped restore balance and allowed for slow, even ripening. Harvest began on September 6 and continued until October 9, with each parcel picked separately at optimal maturity. Vinification took place parcel by parcel in concrete tanks with spontaneous fermentation, followed by malolactic fermentation in new barriques. The wine was then aged for 24 months in oak and an additional year in bottle before release.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Masseto 2022 pairs beautifully with refined, richly flavored dishes such as filet of beef, braised short ribs, roast lamb, game, or truffle-infused pasta. It also works well with aged hard cheeses and earthy mushroom dishes. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine’s aromatic complexity and structure to open fully.
