Masseto Massetino 2023

Masseto Massetino 2023 is the latest expression of Masseto’s celebrated “second wine,” now standing on its own as a refined snapshot of Bolgheri’s blue-clay hillside terroir. Made primarily from Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc, it combines ripe Tuscan intensity with the freshness and elegance that have made the estate one of Italy’s most admired names.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Massetino 2023 shows a deep ruby color with youthful violet highlights. The nose is generous yet precise, opening with dark cherry, plum, wild berries, and blueberry, followed by violet, fresh rosemary, graphite, and a subtle hint of cocoa spice. The palate is juicy, layered, and beautifully balanced, with ripe fruit carried by lively acidity and silky, well-defined tannins. There is real texture and energy here, finishing long and polished with red and dark fruit, gentle spice, and a delicate mineral-saline note. While already appealing in its youth, it has the structure to develop further over the coming years.

Viininvalmistus
The 2023 vintage was shaped by a season of warm spells tempered by cooling coastal winds from the Mediterranean, helping the grapes ripen evenly while preserving freshness and aromatic detail. Winter rainfall left healthy water reserves in the soil, and the steady growing season produced Merlot of dense structure and vibrant acidity, with Cabernet Franc adding lift, spice, and structure. Each parcel was hand-harvested separately at optimal ripeness, then fermented in concrete tanks with gentle, precise extraction to emphasize purity of fruit and the mineral character of the site. Malolactic fermentation took place in barriques, with a carefully judged proportion of new oak, followed by 12 months of barrel aging and a short time in concrete before bottling.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a versatile red that pairs especially well with roast lamb, grilled beef, duck breast, game birds, mushroom risotto, and rich tomato-based dishes. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses and Tuscan-style cuisine. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if drinking young to allow the aromatics and texture to open fully.
