Ovid Napa Valley 2016

Ovid Napa Valley 2016 is the estate’s flagship wine and a true showcase of Pritchard Hill at its most polished and ambitious. Crafted under winemaker Austin Peterson, it combines Bordeaux-inspired structure with the richness and depth that define top Napa Valley Cabernet blends. Produced in very limited quantities and aged in French oak, this is a wine with serious pedigree and unmistakable character.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows an almost inky, dark color that hints at its concentration and power. The nose is layered and expressive, with red and black cherries, blackcurrant, cinnamon, lilies, pepper, and a subtle herbal edge of sage. On the palate, it feels muscular yet refined, with velvety texture, ripe dark fruit, and beautifully integrated spice. The finish is long, fresh, and energetic, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and intensity. This is a wine built for the cellar and should continue to evolve beautifully over many years, gaining complexity and finesse with age.

Viininvalmistus
The fruit comes from Ovid’s own vineyards on Pritchard Hill in Napa Valley, one of the region’s most highly regarded terroirs, known for its rocky soils, elevation, and warm days balanced by cooling influences. The estate is farmed according to leading organic principles and run entirely on solar energy. After pressing and fermentation, the wine was matured for 22 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new, to add structure, depth, and spice without overwhelming the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised short ribs, venison, or richly flavored dishes with mushrooms and herbs. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for at least 1–2 hours is recommended to let the wine fully open and show its complexity.

Austin Peterson has led the winemaking since 2010, helping establish Ovid as one of the most exciting names in modern Napa, with a reputation for both precision and creative experimentation.
