Pape Clement 2003

Pape Clément is one of the most respected names in Bordeaux, known for producing wines that combine power, depth, and remarkable refinement. This 2003 vintage shows the estate’s signature Gravely elegance, with Cabernet Sauvignon bringing structure, dark fruit intensity, and a beautifully mature, classical expression. A wine with historical prestige and serious staying power, it offers the richness of a warm vintage wrapped in the polish expected from a Grand Cru Classé estate.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red hue with mature reflections. The nose is layered and expressive, with notes of black cherry, cassis, plum, smoky tobacco, espresso, loamy earth, forest floor, and a hint of exotic woodsmoke. The palate is dense, lush, and opulent, yet still fresh and balanced. Dark berry fruit and ripe cherry are woven together with earthy, mineral nuances and a broad, lingering finish. The tannins have softened beautifully with age, giving the wine a fleshy, velvety texture. At this stage it is fully mature, though it still has enough structure and balance to continue drinking well over the next 10–15 years.

Pape Clément comes from one of the historic terroirs of Pessac-Léognan in Bordeaux, where gravel soils help Cabernet Sauvignon ripen with precision while preserving freshness and structure. The estate is known for careful vineyard work and a meticulous approach in the cellar, with harvesting typically carried out by hand to ensure only ripe fruit is selected. Fermentation and aging are carried out with the aim of preserving purity, complexity, and the estate’s classic smoky, mineral character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, mushroom dishes, and rich sauces, especially those with earthy or truffle notes. Serve at 16–18°C and consider decanting for about 30–60 minutes if opening now, mainly to let the mature aromas unfold fully.
