Peay Vineyards Pomarium Estate Pinot Noir 2021 is a bold, site-driven expression of Pinot Noir from the cool, hilly reaches of the West Sonoma Coast. Crafted by husband-and-wife winemakers Nick Peay and Vanessa Wong from multiple estate clones, it shows remarkable depth, intensity, and structure—far removed from the more delicate Pinot style many drinkers expect.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a vivid ruby color. The nose is layered and compelling, with aromas of dark cherry, Japanese plum, green tea, flowers, and a touch of vanilla. On the palate, it is broad-shouldered and firmly flavored, offering dark berries, blood orange, raspberry, earth, tar, and spicy stem notes, all carried by a long finish and silky tannins. This is a Pinot Noir with the concentration and backbone to age gracefully for several years. Rather than chasing lightness, this wine leans into depth and savory complexity, making it especially appealing to those who enjoy Pinot Noir with more muscle and presence.

Viininvalmistus
The estate vineyard sits in the northern West Sonoma Coast, about 6 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean, where cool temperatures, rolling terrain, and constant coastal influence create ideal conditions for Pinot Noir. The 51-acre site was chosen for its exposure to sun, wind, and water, and is planted with several Pinot Noir clones. Farming is organic, with biodiesel and solar energy used on the property, and most work is done by hand. Production is small, reflecting the meticulous approach in both vineyard and cellar.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with duck, roast chicken, grilled salmon, wild mushroom dishes, game birds, and earthy vegetarian fare such as lentil ragout or truffle risotto. Serve at 15–17°C. A short decant is recommended if opening young, as it will help the wine unfold its savory aromatics and polished structure.

Peay Vineyards was founded in 1995 by Nick Peay and Vanessa Wong after they searched extensively for the right coastal site in Sonoma. Wong brought strong Burgundian experience from Peter Michael Winery and Domaine Jean Gros, which helped shape the estate’s thoughtful approach to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Today, Peay is regarded as one of the leading producers on the West Sonoma Coast, known for precision farming, tiny production levels, and wines of exceptional character.
