Peay Vineyards’ Scallop Shelf Estate Pinot Noir 2021 is a beautifully composed expression of California Pinot Noir, crafted from 5–6 clones grown on the estate’s own vineyard. Made by Nick Peay and Vanessa Wong, it combines refinement and balance with inviting dark-fruited depth, making it a standout in the vintage. This is a wine with both immediate charm and the pedigree to evolve gracefully over the coming years.

In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a polished, elegant profile with an appealing depth of color. The nose opens with dark cherries, plums, blood orange, forest floor, boysenberry, and a hint of tobacco, giving it a layered and expressive aromatic profile. On the palate, red cherries, ripe plums, blackberry, cranberry, and a subtle touch of liquorice create a wine with both brightness and richness. It is marked by personality, finesse, and balance, already delicious now but with clear aging potential over the next several years.

This Pinot Noir pairs well with roasted duck, quail, mushroom dishes, salmon, or poultry with earthy herbs and light sauces. Serve slightly chilled, ideally around 15–16°C, to bring out its aromatic detail and balance. Decanting is optional, but a short aeration can help open the wine if enjoyed young.
