Peter Michael La Carrière Chardonnay 2018

Peter Michael La Carrière Chardonnay 2018 is a standout Californian white from one of the estate’s most prized vineyard sites. Grown on an extremely steep slope at around 500 meters above sea level, in intensely rocky soils with exceptional drainage, it combines power, precision, and striking mineral tension. With winemaker Nicolas Morlet at the helm, this is a Chardonnay that reflects both exceptional terroir and a long tradition of top-tier mountain-grown California wine.

In the glass, the wine shows impressive depth and richness, with a polished, luminous character that hints at its concentration. The nose is expansive and layered, opening with mandarin, dried apricot, and warm pineapple, followed by notes of brioche, acacia honey, hazelnuts, and grapefruit. The palate is equally expressive, offering Williams pear, citrus, white flowers, almonds, vanilla, and a vivid mineral streak from the stony subsoil. Concentrated yet beautifully elegant, it has both breadth and freshness, with a structure that makes it enjoyable now while giving it the potential to develop gracefully over the next 10 years.

Viininvalmistus
La Carrière comes from Peter Michael’s own vineyard on a steep hillside site high in the mountains of California, where the rocky, well-drained soils are ideal for Chardonnay. The altitude and exposure help preserve freshness and aromatic precision, while the vineyard’s stony terrain naturally limits vigor and concentrates flavor. The wine was aged for 12 months on the lees, contributing to its texture, depth, and layered complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with rich seafood dishes such as lobster, scallops, or roasted turbot, as well as poultry in creamy sauces, risotto with mushrooms, or fine cheeses like Comté and aged Gruyère. Serve it at 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, but a short airing can help the wine open up and reveal more of its complexity.
