Peter Michael La Carrière Chardonnay 2021

Peter Michael La Carrière Chardonnay 2021 is a striking, site-driven white from one of Sonoma County’s most revered Chardonnay vineyards. Sourced from Peter Michael’s own La Carrière site, planted on a steep, rocky slope at around 500 meters elevation, it combines intensity, precision, and a pronounced mineral edge. The name La Carrière, meaning "the quarry," hints at the stony character that has helped make this one of the estate’s most distinctive wines.

Makuprofiili
Pale gold in the glass, this Chardonnay opens with a layered and expressive bouquet of mandarin, dried apricot, and warm pineapple, lifted by notes of brioche, acacia honey, hazelnut, and grapefruit. The nose is generous yet refined, with a complexity that continues to unfold in the glass. On the palate, it is concentrated, elegant, and deeply mineral, showing Williams pear, citrus, white flowers, almond, vanilla, and a clear stony tension that gives the wine its energy and length. Rich in texture but very well balanced, it is already approachable now and has the structure to age gracefully for at least 10 years.

Viininvalmistus
La Carrière is a steep hillside vineyard with exceptionally rocky soils and excellent drainage, positioned at high altitude in California’s cooler wine country. These conditions, paired with ideal weather and careful vineyard management, allow for slow ripening and strong natural concentration. Winemaker Nicolas Morlet crafted the wine with 12 months of lees aging, adding depth, texture, and the wine’s signature layered complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay is a natural match for lobster, roast chicken, seared scallops, turbot, creamy pasta dishes, and truffle risotto. It also works beautifully with dishes that have a little richness, such as chicken with morels or butter-poached seafood. Serve chilled at around 10-12°C, and consider a short decant if serving young to allow its aromatics and texture to open fully.
