Peter Michael L’Esprit des Pavots 2017 is the estate’s Bordeaux-inspired second wine, but there is nothing secondary about the quality in this outstanding vintage. Crafted from fruit grown on Peter Michael’s own Les Pavots and Au Paradis vineyards, it offers a polished, California-grown expression of classic Left Bank style with real depth and elegance. Inspired by the great châteaux of Bordeaux, it is a wine that brings prestige, structure, and immediate charm together in one bottle.

In the glass, this 2017 vintage shows a deep, dark core and plenty of richness. The bouquet opens with vivid notes of black cherry, plum, chocolate, black truffle, leather, liquorice, and cigar box, delivering an aromatic profile that is both luxurious and classically structured. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, already supple and velvety, with layered dark fruit and savory complexity echoing the nose. The 18 months in French oak lend polish and subtle spice, while the blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot gives balance, grip, and impressive length. It is approachable now, though it will continue to evolve gracefully over the next few years.

L’Esprit des Pavots is sourced from Peter Michael’s estate vineyards Les Pavots and Au Paradis in California, where the combination of hillside sites and the region’s warm, sun-drenched climate helps produce concentrated Bordeaux varieties with freshness and structure. The fruit is harvested from carefully managed vineyard parcels and vinified with the aim of capturing both power and finesse. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, which adds complexity, texture, and aromatic depth without overshadowing the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, roast lamb, duck breast, mushroom dishes, or truffle-infused pasta, as well as hard aged cheeses. Serve it at around 16–18°C for the best expression of its aromas and texture. Decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended, especially if opening it now, to let the wine fully unfold in the glass.
