Peter Michael L’Esprit des Pavots 2019

Peter Michael L’Esprit des Pavots 2019 is the estate’s Bordeaux-inspired second wine, but there is nothing secondary about its quality or character. Crafted from fruit grown on Peter Michael’s own vineyards in California’s mountain terroir, it delivers impressive depth, structure, and elegance in a vintage that is already remarkably expressive. Named in the spirit of the estate’s flagship Les Pavots cuvée, it offers a more approachable introduction to the house style while still carrying clear pedigree.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this 2019 shows a deep, polished ruby-purple hue. The nose is immediately inviting, opening with dark cherries, plums, chocolate, black truffle, leather, liquorice, and a refined cigar box note that points to its Bordeaux lineage. The palate is medium-bodied yet wonderfully supple, with velvety tannins and a seamless texture that makes the wine feel approachable now. Flavours echo the aroma, layering ripe dark fruit with savoury complexity and a classy oak frame from 18 months in French oak. While already delicious in its youth, it should continue to develop gracefully over the next few years.

Viininvalmistus
The wine is a blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 28% Cabernet Franc, and 9% Petit Verdot, sourced from Peter Michael’s Les Pavots and Au Paradis vineyards in California. These estate sites are known for producing concentrated, Bordeaux-style fruit with balance and finesse, shaped by a cool-climate mountain terroir that supports slow, even ripening. After harvest, the wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels before being bottled.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for grilled ribeye, roast lamb, braised short ribs, mushroom dishes, and hard cheeses such as aged Comté or Manchego. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if opening now to allow the aromas and texture to fully unfold.
