Petrolo Galatrona 2020 in double magnum is one of Tuscany’s most sought-after Merlots, a true cult wine often mentioned in the same breath as the great names of Pomerol. Nicknamed by Wine Spectator as “The Pétrus of Tuscany,” it combines exceptional depth, precision and elegance with the added prestige of a rare large-format bottling—perfect for collectors and special occasions.

In the glass, Galatrona shows a deep, dark ruby color that hints at its concentration and intensity. The nose opens with layers of ripe cherry, red berries, vanilla, toasted almond and a touch of liquorice, gradually gaining nuance as it breathes. The palate is rich and powerful, yet beautifully balanced, with full, supple tannins and a long, refined finish. Flavors of dark fruit, dried mint and sweet oak linger with impressive clarity. This is a wine with excellent aging potential, and the 2020 vintage should evolve gracefully for many years, gaining complexity and silkiness over time.

Galatrona comes from Petrolo’s cool, forested vineyard site in Tuscany, positioned almost exactly between Florence, Arezzo and Siena. The estate works according to natural principles, avoiding both organic and inorganic fertilizers and encouraging grass to grow freely to help regulate soil nutrition and moisture. The wine is made from Merlot and vinified with the aim of preserving purity, structure and the expressive character of the site.

Ruoka & tarjoilu

Petrolo is one of Tuscany’s elite estates, having achieved cult status since the mid-1990s through a string of outstanding reviews from critics such as Robert Parker and James Suckling. Originally known for more traditional Chianti production, the estate rose to prominence under Luca Sanjust, whose vision transformed Petrolo into a benchmark producer. Today it is especially famous for Galatrona, its flagship Merlot, as well as Torrione, a Sangiovese-based wine.
