Petrolo Galatrona 2022

Petrolo Galatrona 2022 is one of Tuscany’s most celebrated Merlot wines, drawn entirely from the estate’s historic single vineyard in Val d’Arno di Sopra. It combines the depth and structure often associated with great Bordeaux with the warmth, energy, and generosity that make top Tuscan reds so compelling.

In the glass, Galatrona 2022 shows a deep, dark ruby colour that hints at its concentration and intensity. The bouquet is layered and expressive, with aromas of blackberries, black cherries, violets, graphite, and subtle spice from oak aging. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet remarkably composed, with silk-like tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral backbone that keeps everything focused and energetic. The finish is long and precise, unfolding with notes of mocha, cedar, and ripe dark fruit. Built for aging, this is a wine that already impresses in its youth but has the structure to develop beautifully over many years.

Viininvalmistus
Galatrona comes from Petrolo’s historic single vineyard in Val d’Arno di Sopra, where stony clay soils rich in slate and limestone help produce grapes with concentration, freshness, and natural balance. The Merlot is harvested by hand in small parcels at optimal ripeness, then destemmed and fermented with natural yeasts in concrete tanks. After a gentle maceration, the wine is aged for around 18 months in French barriques, a significant proportion of them new, to add polish and complexity without overwhelming the wine’s fruit and mineral character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for premium cuts of beef, lamb, game, truffle-based dishes, and richly flavoured mushroom plates. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if enjoying it young, to let the wine fully open and show its aromatic depth.
