Pétrus 1990

Pétrus 1990 is one of Bordeaux’s true legend bottles — a rare, Merlot-driven Pomerol that sits at the very top of the fine-wine world. In the glass, the 1990 Pétrus shows a deep ruby to garnet core with remarkable vitality for its age. The nose is immensely layered, offering dark plum, black cherry, truffle, cedar, tobacco leaf, and earthy nuances, all wrapped in a sense of sweetness and maturity that never feels heavy. On the palate, it is dense, powerful, and seamlessly textured, yet famously polished — combining ripe Merlot richness with velvety tannins, exceptional purity, and a long, resonant finish. Despite its age, this vintage has the structure to continue evolving, and it remains capable of aging gracefully for many more years.

Pétrus comes from the right bank appellation of Pomerol, where the vineyard’s clay-rich soils and favorable microclimate help Merlot reach extraordinary depth and precision. The estate is known for its extremely small production, meticulous hand harvesting, and highly selective vinification, all aimed at preserving the purity, concentration, and finesse that define the wine.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best served with refined dishes that can stand up to its intensity, such as filet of beef, roast lamb, truffle risotto, or pigeon. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended if the bottle is showing youthful structure; for an older bottle like this, a gentle decant shortly before serving is usually best to preserve its delicate aromatics.
