Pétrus 1998

Pétrus 1998 is one of the great wines of Pomerol, and a true benchmark for Merlot from Bordeaux’s Right Bank. Produced in tiny quantities and sought after around the world, it combines rare concentration, luxury, and unmistakable pedigree in a bottle that has long held cult status among collectors.

In the glass, the 1998 vintage shows a deep plum-purple colour, hinting at its richness and depth. The nose is highly expressive, with layers of black fruit wrapped in notes of caramel, mocha, and vanilla. On the palate, it is exceptionally pure and intensely concentrated, with full body, admirable acidity, and sweet, polished tannins that give the wine both power and precision. The mid-palate is especially impressive, unfolding with remarkable richness and complexity before leading into a long, persistent finish. Robert Parker predicted a long drinking window for this vintage, and the 1998 Pétrus has the structure and balance to age beautifully for many years, rewarding patience with even greater harmony and nuance.

Viininvalmistus
Pétrus comes from Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, where the estate’s terroir is closely associated with the finesse and depth of Merlot. The wine is made entirely from Merlot, sourced from old vines and crafted in extremely limited quantities. While detailed vinification methods are not provided here, Pétrus is known for meticulous vineyard work, rigorous selection, and a production philosophy focused on achieving exceptional concentration and purity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with refined dishes that can match its depth and texture, such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, truffle-based dishes, or rich mushroom preparations. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is recommended, especially if opening before full maturity, to allow the wine to раскрыt its aromatics and soften its structure.
