Pétrus 1999

Pétrus 1999 is one of the great cult wines of Bordeaux, prized for its rarity, prestige, and the remarkable depth that has made Château Pétrus a benchmark for Merlot-driven wines. Hailing from Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, it stands apart from the region’s most famous classified châteaux thanks to its singular focus on Merlot and its uncompromising estate-only production.

In the glass, the wine shows a dense, nearly opaque ruby-purple colour. The nose is intensely layered with sweet black cherry, mulberry, and truffle-inflected aromas, framed by a sense of purity and evolution. On the palate, Pétrus 1999 is full-bodied, velvety, and supremely concentrated, with low acidity, sweet tannins, and the kind of seamless texture that has made the estate legendary. Robert Parker noted its beautiful intensity and finesse in a more evolved style, with a drinking window that can extend for decades; this is a wine with impressive ageing potential and a long, graceful life ahead.

Viininvalmistus
Pétrus comes from the clay-rich soils of Pomerol, a terroir especially well suited to Merlot and known for producing wines of richness, softness, and depth. The estate’s old vines, some over a century in age, contribute to the wine’s extraordinary concentration, while meticulous hand-harvesting and careful selection ensure only the best fruit is used. Vinification is handled with great precision to preserve the wine’s purity, structure, and signature elegance, with production kept intentionally tiny.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best served at around 16–18°C, Pétrus 1999 deserves dishes that can match its depth and finesse, such as roasted lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, truffle-based dishes, or game with a refined sauce. Decanting is recommended, but gently and not too far in advance, to allow the wine to open without losing its delicate nuances.
