Pétrus 2016 is one of the most coveted wines in Bordeaux, and for good reason: it combines extraordinary precision, depth, and rarity in a way few wines can match. Made entirely from Merlot in the heart of Pomerol, this is a singular Grand Vin with a cult reputation, tiny production, and a style that has long placed it on every serious collector’s bucket list.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Pétrus 2016 shows an opaque purple-black colour that hints at its intensity. The nose is profoundly expressive, unfolding with kirsch, black plum, blueberry compote, red roses, violet, dark chocolate, licorice, cinnamon, and subtle notes of iron, pencil lead, cigar box, and crushed stone. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, layered, and beautifully polished, with dense red and blue fruit wrapped around firm, grainy tannins and a fresh, energetic spine. Its balance is classic rather than flashy, and the finish is remarkably long and mineral-driven. While already impressive in its youth, this is a wine built for patience and will continue to evolve beautifully for decades.

Viininvalmistus
Pétrus comes from Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, where the terroir differs markedly from the Left Bank’s great classified estates. The estate is planted entirely to Merlot, with vines rooted in soils that contribute both richness and finesse, and the fruit is known to come from very old vines that give low yields and exceptional concentration. Harvesting is carried out with meticulous attention to quality, and vinification is focused on preserving the purity, structure, and balance that define the estate’s style.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with refined dishes that can meet its depth and elegance, such as beef fillet, truffle-infused dishes, roasted lamb, duck breast, or game with earthy accompaniments. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended if drinking young to help the wine open and reveal its full aromatic complexity.

Château Pétrus is one of Bordeaux’s most iconic estates, and its fame was built largely in the 20th century after Jean-Pierre Moueix became involved in the property in the 1950s. Under the Moueix family, and later Christian Moueix, the estate became a benchmark for Pomerol and one of the most celebrated wine names in the world. Unlike many top Bordeaux châteaux, Pétrus produces only its Grand Vin, a rarity that adds to its mystique and legendary status.
