Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir Angel Flower 2020

Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir Angel Flower 2020 is a beautifully poised and elegantly styled Pinot Noir from Canterbury, showing the more graceful, feminine side of the variety. Crafted by Huw Kinch from biodynamically farmed vines planted in 2000, it stands out for its limestone-and-clay precision, silky texture, and quietly impressive depth. This is site-driven New Zealand Pinot Noir with real finesse and a strong sense of place.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, Angel Flower can show a slightly less polished clarity than some other Pinot Noirs, but that only adds to its natural character and authenticity. The nose opens with red cherries, raspberries, blood orange, lavender, forest floor, rosemary, violet, orange peel, and a subtle hint of clove and fresh mint. The palate is defined by vivid red fruit and a light, almost dancing feel, with silky tannins and fresh, juicy energy carrying the wine through a long, fragrant finish. There is real complexity here, but it is delivered with quiet restraint rather than power. It is drinking beautifully now and has the structure to age nicely over the coming years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from a vineyard planted in 2000 on soils rich in limestone and clay, a combination that brings both precision and character to the wine. The site is farmed biodynamically, with a strong focus on working in harmony with nature and encouraging healthy, low-yielding vines. Harvest is handled by hand, followed by hand sorting and complete destemming before fermentation. The wine then matures for 18 months in a mix of new and used French oak barrels and is bottled without filtration.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir is a wonderful match for duck breast, roast chicken, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, or pork tenderloin with herbs. It also works nicely with earthy vegetarian dishes and mild cheeses. Serve slightly chilled at around 14-16°C, and decanting is optional but can help the wine open up if served young.

Pyramid Valley was founded in 2000 by Mike and Claudia Weersing and has become one of New Zealand’s most respected premium wine producers.
