Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir Central Otago 2020 is a mineral-driven, finely textured expression of one of New Zealand’s most exciting wine regions. Crafted from two organically farmed sites in Lowburn and Bannockburn, it combines depth, freshness, and impressive aromatic lift, with the Lowburn vines bringing concentration and age, while Bannockburn adds energy and brightness. This is a modern Central Otago Pinot Noir with both precision and soul, showing why the region has become such a benchmark for the variety.

In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a vivid, youthful ruby tone with the clarity and brightness you’d expect from Central Otago. The nose is immediately engaging, offering dark and red cherries, baked raspberries, thyme, red florals, and a gentle layer of vanilla and spice from the oak, all underscored by a subtle wildness and herbal complexity. The palate is poised and energetic, with ripe cherry and berry fruit framed by savory herbs, spice, and fine tannins. There is real intensity here, but it never feels heavy; instead, the wine moves with elegance and balance, finishing with a mineral edge that keeps everything fresh. It can be enjoyed now for its fragrance and charm, though it should develop beautifully over the next few years, gaining greater depth and nuance.

Viininvalmistus
The fruit comes from two organically farmed vineyards in Central Otago: one in Lowburn, home to some of the region’s oldest vines, and another in Bannockburn, which contributes freshness and lift. Winemaker Huw Kinch uses 15% whole clusters in fermentation to add structure and aromatic complexity. The wine is then matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new, before spending a further six months in stainless steel to preserve purity and refine the final blend.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for dishes like roast duck, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, lamb loin, or earthy vegetarian plates with truffle, beetroot, or roasted root vegetables. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. Decanting is not essential, but a short decant of 20–30 minutes can help the wine open up if enjoyed in its youth.
