Pyramid Valley Pinot Noir North Canterbury 2019 is a standout New Zealand Pinot with a more earthy, spice-driven personality than many wines from the country. Sourced from four biodynamically farmed sites across the Waipara area in North Canterbury, it combines intense fruit, savory complexity, and striking structure in a style that feels both distinctive and deeply rooted in terroir. This is a serious, site-expressive Pinot Noir from one of New Zealand’s most respected producers.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep, expressive color that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose opens with dark plum, blueberry, and strawberry, layered with herbs, black pepper, black tea, and a gentle touch of vanilla from the oak. The palate is rich and focused, with dark fruit and spice taking the lead, supported by finely detailed tannins and lively acidity. There’s impressive energy and length here, finishing long and resonant with earthy, savory notes. While it is already drinking beautifully now, it also has the structure to develop well over the medium term.

Viininvalmistus
The fruit comes from four biodynamically managed vineyards in North Canterbury’s Waipara region, an area known for producing some of New Zealand’s most compelling Pinot Noir thanks to its cool climate and well-suited soils. During fermentation, 30% of the fruit was kept as whole clusters, adding herbal nuance and complexity, while extraction was handled with a light touch. The wine then matured for 11 months in French oak barrels, 20% of them new, followed by 4 months in stainless steel before bottling without filtration.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for duck, roasted poultry, mushroom dishes, lamb, or earthy vegetarian plates such as lentil and root vegetable dishes. Serve it at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting briefly if opened young to help the aromatics and structure open up. Its balance of fruit, spice, and savory depth makes it especially versatile at the table.
