Rhys Alpine Vineyard Chardonnay 2016 is a striking cool-climate Chardonnay from the Santa Cruz Mountains, offering a level of precision, intensity, and mineral drive that invites comparison with top Puligny-Montrachet—while still remaining unmistakably Californian. Sourced from one of Rhys’ most distinctive vineyard sites, it combines concentration with finesse, and shows the kind of complexity that has made the estate one of the most talked-about names in American Chardonnay.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Chardonnay shows a bright, polished character with a sense of energy and depth. The nose opens with vivid notes of lemon oil, crisp apple, pineapple, passion fruit, white flowers, oyster shell, and a touch of nutmeg, creating an aromatic profile that is both precise and layered. On the palate, it is fuller-bodied and textural, with an almost oily silkiness that carries wave after wave of flavor. Citrus, stone fruit, saline minerality, and subtle spice unfold with impressive concentration, finishing long and firmly mineral. This is a wine with excellent aging potential; with a few years in bottle, it should gain even more breadth, nuance, and expressive complexity, and is expected to drink beautifully for many years to come.

Viininvalmistus
Alpine Vineyard sits in the cooler northern part of the Santa Cruz Mountains, where Pacific breezes help preserve freshness and natural balance in the grapes. The site’s elevated, coastal-influenced terroir is key to the wine’s mineral profile and bright acidity. Winemaker Jeff Brinkman ferments the Chardonnay in oak and then matures the juice in stainless steel, a thoughtful approach that preserves purity while adding texture and complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Chardonnay is a natural match for rich seafood dishes such as lobster, scallops, crab, or turbot, as well as roast chicken, creamy pasta, or dishes with mushrooms and subtle herbs. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 10–12°C, to allow both its aromatic lift and layered texture to show well. Decanting is not necessary, but a little time in the glass will help the wine open beautifully.
