Rippon Emma's Block Mature Vine Pinot Noir 2017

Rippon Emma’s Block Mature Vine Pinot Noir 2017 is a beautifully expressive Central Otago Pinot Noir, shaped by one of Rippon’s most distinctive parcels. Sourced from Emma’s Block, where clay-rich soils with schist and a lake-facing aspect help build depth and nuance, this wine combines elegance with real site character. With some of the region’s earliest-planted vines, it carries both history and a sense of maturity in the glass.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a slightly lighter edge of color, hinting at its graceful, open-knit style. The nose brings bright layers of raspberry and cherry, lifted by thyme, violets, and a subtle peppery note. On the palate, the fruit takes center stage, supported by gentle structure and a soft, velvety texture rather than firm edges. It already offers plenty of charm and approachability, but according to winemaker Nick Mills, it also has strong ageing potential for those willing to wait.

Viininvalmistus
Emma’s Block comes from a special parcel at Rippon in Central Otago, planted on clay-rich soils with schist influences and an eastern aspect toward Lake Wānaka. The mature vines are among the oldest in the region, contributing concentration, complexity, and depth. Specific vinification details are not provided, but the wine is clearly made to highlight the character of this individual site.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for duck, roast chicken, mushroom dishes, lamb, or game birds, and it also works well with earthy vegetarian plates. Serve slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, to bring out the fragrance and finesse. Decanting is optional, but a short aeration can help the wine open up if you’re drinking it young.
