Rivers-Marie Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 is a strikingly elegant take on Napa Valley Cabernet, showing the finesse and lift more often associated with Pinot Noir than with a classic full-bodied Cab. Sourced from multiple sites in Calistoga and crafted by Thomas Rivers Brown, it combines deep regional character with remarkable freshness and precision.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a dark purple color that hints at its concentration, yet the wine is far from heavy. The nose opens with red fruit, cassis, cocoa, sage, graphite, and a floral thread of lavender, giving it both richness and complexity. On the palate, those same notes carry through with impressive balance, supported by fine acidity and a vibrant, fresh energy. It is still youthful and energetic now, but has the structure and poise to age beautifully over the coming years, likely developing even greater depth and nuance with bottle time.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from several different vineyard sites in Calistoga, one of the warmest areas of California’s Napa Valley, where ripe fruit and strong site expression are key. The blend is adjusted slightly from vintage to vintage, reflecting Rivers-Marie’s flexible approach to capturing the best possible balance each year. The wine was matured in French oak barrels, with 70% new oak used to add structure and subtle complexity without overwhelming the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with grilled or roasted beef, lamb, venison, mushroom-based dishes, and hard aged cheeses. Serve it at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 1-2 hours if enjoying it young, to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open.
