Roger Sabon’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Le Secret des Sabon 2009 is a rare, highly sought-after expression of old-vine Grenache from one of the Rhône’s most prestigious appellations. Produced in extremely limited quantities, it captures the depth, concentration, and warmth that have made Châteauneuf-du-Pape a benchmark for powerful Southern Rhône reds since the region’s wine heritage took shape around the papal seat in the 14th century.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep black-purple core, hinting at its intensity from the very first pour. The nose is expansive and layered, with smoke, tobacco leaf, creosote, black currant, black cherry, graphite, ripe blackberry, kirsch, flowers, licorice, and earthy nuances unfolding with air. The palate is full-bodied, rich, and mouthfilling, with massive concentration and a seamless, powerful texture. Dark fruit and savory spice carry through a long finish, while the wine’s structure suggests impressive longevity. While already expressive, it benefits from further cellaring and should continue to develop beautifully over 25 to 30+ years.

Viininvalmistus
This cuvée comes from exceptionally low-yielding Grenache vines, with yields around 20 hectoliters per hectare, contributing to its remarkable concentration. Sourced from the sun-drenched, stony terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône, the wine reflects the region’s warmth, gravelly soils, and ability to produce bold, ripe reds. It was aged in 600-liter demi-muids, allowing the fruit to remain dominant while gaining complexity and polish from gentle oak influence.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best served with rich, flavorful dishes such as roasted lamb, beef short ribs, game, duck, or slow-braised Provençal cuisine with herbs and olives. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for at least 1–2 hours is recommended, especially if opened young, to allow its layered aromas and tannins to fully open up.
