In the glass, Hillside Select 2013 shows the kind of deep, dark color you expect from a top-tier Napa Cabernet, with an almost opaque core. The nose is layered and expressive, offering dark plum, blackcurrant tart, cassis, anise, nutmeg, and rose petal, all framed by polished oak. The palate is dense and remarkably intense, echoing the dark plum and blueberry notes from the bouquet and building with pomegranate, liquorice, crushed stone, tobacco, sage, and a subtle smoky edge. It finishes with impressive length and presence. While already stunning in a large glass today, this wine has the structure and balance to develop beautifully for at least another 20 years.

Hillside Select is sourced from 14 small vineyard parcels on the slopes of Shafer Vineyards in Napa Valley, where the hillside exposure and rocky soils naturally limit yields and concentrate flavor. The grapes are hand-harvested from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon vines, allowing for careful selection of only the best fruit. In 2013, winemaker Elias Fernandez aged the wine for 32 months in 100% new French oak barrels, shaping its texture and adding depth, spice, and complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine made for rich, flavorful dishes such as grilled ribeye, prime rib, braised short ribs, venison, or truffle-infused mushroom dishes. It also pairs beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C; decanting for several hours is recommended if opening young, especially in magnum format, to allow the wine to fully раскрыться and show its full aromatic range.
