Shafer Hillside Select is one of Napa Valley’s true benchmarks—a cult Cabernet Sauvignon that has earned its place on every serious wine lover’s wish list. Sourced exclusively from 14 small hillside parcels around Shafer Vineyards and made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon, it is a wine known for its depth, power, and remarkable consistency. First released as the wine that helped define Shafer’s reputation, Hillside Select remains one of the most celebrated wines in California.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the 2014 vintage shows a deeply concentrated, almost impenetrable dark color. The nose is intense and layered, opening with dark plums, blackcurrant tart, cassis, and anise, then unfolding into notes of nutmeg and rose petals. On the palate, it mirrors the aromatic profile with black plum and blueberry, lifted by pomegranate, licorice, crushed stone, tobacco, sage, and a subtle smoky edge. The finish is extraordinarily long and persistent, with the structure and freshness to age for at least another 20 years, and likely far beyond under ideal cellaring conditions.

Viininvalmistus
Hillside Select comes from 14 small hillside blocks at Shafer’s vineyard in Napa Valley, where the elevated, sloping sites contribute concentration, structure, and natural freshness. The 2014 vintage was vinified under winemaker Elias Fernandez and aged for 32 months in 100% new French oak barrels, a regimen that adds polish, spice, and depth while supporting the wine’s powerful tannic frame.

This is a wine built for rich, flavorful dishes such as grilled ribeye, lamb chops, braised short ribs, venison, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for several hours, especially if drinking young, to allow the wine’s full aromatic complexity and texture to unfold.
