Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select 2016 Magnum

Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select 2016 Magnum is one of Napa Valley’s most coveted Cabernet Sauvignons, and in magnum format it has even greater presence and cellaring potential. Made entirely from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on 14 small hillside parcels around the Shafer estate, it is a powerful expression of mountain fruit, meticulous farming, and a wine that has long held iconic status among collectors.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a deeply colored, intense red with remarkable concentration. The nose opens with dark plums, cassis, blackcurrant tart, anise, nutmeg, and rose petals, all lifted by the elegance of new French oak. On the palate, it echoes the dark plum and blueberry notes from the aromatics, then layers in pomegranate, licorice, crushed stone, tobacco, sage, and a subtle smoky edge. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, with the structure and depth to evolve beautifully for decades. While already magnificent, it is built for the cellar and should continue to impress for at least 20 years, and likely far beyond.

Viininvalmistus
Hillside Select comes from Shafer’s steep hillside vineyards in Napa Valley, where well-drained soils and elevated sites help produce concentrated, structured Cabernet Sauvignon with natural depth and finesse. The 2016 vintage was vinified by winemaker Elias Fernandez and matured for 32 months in 100% new French oak barrels, a regimen that adds polish, complexity, and aging power while preserving the wine’s intense mountain-fruit character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine for rich, flavourful dishes such as dry-aged ribeye, lamb chops, braised short ribs, venison, or truffle-infused dishes. It also pairs beautifully with hard aged cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C and decant for at least 1–2 hours if drinking now, especially from magnum, to allow the wine to fully open.
