Shafer Vineyards Hillside Select 2019 Magnum is one of Napa Valley’s great benchmark Cabernet Sauvignons, and a bottle that belongs on any serious wine lover’s wishlist. Sourced entirely from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grown on 14 small hillside parcels around Shafer’s estate, it combines power, precision, and remarkable depth in a style that has helped define the estate’s legacy.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a deeply colored, near-impenetrable red with the density you’d expect from a wine of this stature. The nose is intensely layered, offering dark plums, blackcurrant tart, cassis, anise, nutmeg, and rose petals, all wrapped in a fine veil of oak spice. The palate is equally dramatic, echoing the dark plum and blueberry notes from the aromatics and adding pomegranate, licorice, crushed stone, tobacco, sage, and a subtle smoky edge. Concentrated and long, it finishes with exceptional persistence and the kind of structure that promises 30–40 years of aging potential, especially in magnum format.

Viininvalmistus
Hillside Select is drawn from Shafer’s hillside vineyards in Napa Valley, where the steep slopes and well-drained soils help produce Cabernet Sauvignon with outstanding concentration and natural structure. The fruit comes from 14 small parcels on the estate, harvested with careful selection to preserve quality and site expression. Winemaker Elias Fernandez aged the 2019 vintage for 32 months in 100% new French oak barrels, giving the wine its polished texture, layered spice, and substantial frame.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for equally memorable food, such as grilled ribeye, dry-aged beef, braised short ribs, venison, or lamb with rosemary and garlic. It also pairs beautifully with rich mushroom dishes and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if possible to allow the wine to fully open and reveal its complexity.
