Shafer Vineyards Syrah Relentless 2019

Shafer Vineyards Relentless 2019 is a powerful, seriously crafted Syrah-based blend that stands among Napa Valley's most celebrated reds. Made from 90% Syrah and 10% Petite Sirah, sourced from vineyards along the Vaca Mountains south of the Stags Leap District, and matured for 30 months in 100% new French oak, it is a wine built for intensity, complexity, and longevity.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep, almost black-purple color that immediately signals concentration and depth. The nose is remarkably expressive, offering blackcurrant, preserved plums, cloudberries, smoked meat, licorice, and a vivid thread of Indian spice that gives the wine both warmth and lift. The palate is equally commanding, with layers of blackberry, black pepper, licorice, bacon, tar, and black tea unfolding over a broad, full-bodied structure. Despite its richness and 15.8% alcohol, the wine remains focused and balanced, finishing with remarkable length. Built for the long haul, Relentless has excellent aging potential, but with ample decanting it is already impressive today.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from vineyard sites along the Vaca Mountains, just south of the Stags Leap District in Napa Valley, a location known for producing ripe, structured reds with plenty of power and aromatic depth. The blend is composed of Syrah and a smaller portion of Petite Sirah, adding extra color, density, and tannic backbone. Shafer's extended 30-month aging in entirely new French oak shapes the wine with deep spice, polished texture, and greater complexity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, slow-braised short ribs, pepper-crusted lamb, venison, or smoked barbecue. It also works beautifully with mature hard cheeses and dishes featuring earthy mushrooms or black olives. Serve at around 16-18°C and consider decanting for at least 1-2 hours to let the wine fully open up.
