Smith & Sheth CRU Pinot Noir Kawarau 2019 is a beautifully poised expression of New Zealand Pinot Noir, crafted by winemaker Steve Smith from fruit grown in two sustainably farmed Gibbston vineyards. Light on its feet yet layered with character, it combines elegance, purity, and complexity in a style that shows just how compelling Pinot Noir from New Zealand can be.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows a graceful, refined profile with a vibrant, translucent red hue. The nose is aromatic and expressive, with notes of blackberry, plum, dark cherry, anise, clove, and violet giving it a lifted, spicy-floral complexity. The palate is supple and precise, opening with ripe plum, blackberry, and dark chocolate, all carried by fresh acidity that keeps the wine lively and focused. The balance of fruit, spice, and freshness gives it both immediate appeal and the structure to develop further over the next few years.

Viininvalmistus
The fruit for this wine comes from two sustainably cultivated sites in Gibbston, a cooler inland area known for producing finely structured Pinot Noir with brightness and aromatic detail. The grapes were hand-harvested and de-stemmed before fermentation in open-top vats, then matured for 10 months in French oak barrels, with 28% new oak to add subtle depth and texture without overpowering the fruit.

Serve this Pinot Noir with duck breast, roasted chicken, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, or lamb with herbs and root vegetables. It is best enjoyed slightly cool, around 14-16°C, and does not require decanting, though a short aeration can help reveal its aromatic layers.
