Walter Hansel Pinot Noir The South Slope 2022 comes from the southernmost and highest-elevation vineyard site in Walter Hansel’s Russian River Valley holdings, giving it a distinctive balance of finesse and depth. Crafted entirely from Dijon clone 777 on 19-year-old vines, it offers a nod to the elegance of Premier Cru Côte de Beaune while steadily leaning into a more expressive New World style with each vintage.

In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red hue that immediately signals concentration and vibrancy. The bouquet is layered and inviting, with dark berries, raspberry, basil, rose petals, damp earth, forest floor, spice, leather, smoke, and tobacco unfolding in waves. The palate continues with dark cherry, wild blueberry, strawberry, plum, cola, and a hint of wild flowers, all wrapped in silky tannins that give the wine its polished feel. It is enjoyable now for its youthful energy and detail, yet has the structure and pedigree to age gracefully for decades.
