Arnot-Roberts Gamay Noir, El Dorado 2023

Arnot-Roberts Gamay Noir from El Dorado is a lively, beautifully perfumed red that shows just how thrilling California Gamay can be in the right hands. Sourced from the cool, high-elevation Barsotti and Witters vineyards, this is a wine shaped by granite soils, freshness, and real finesse. Arnot-Roberts has been making Gamay since 2003, and with each vintage the style has become more confident, precise, and compelling.

Makuprofiili
The wine pours a light ruby color, setting the tone for something bright, graceful, and unforced. On the nose, expect layers of blueberry, tart cherry, strawberry tart, potting soil, and a subtle hint of spice. The palate is fresh and juicy, with red cherry, raspberry, blood orange, rose petals, and a touch of mint on the finish. It’s a wine built for immediate enjoyment, though its balance and savory complexity suggest it will hold nicely over the near term.

Viininvalmistus
This Gamay comes from the Barsotti and Witters vineyards in El Dorado, where the cool mountain climate and high elevations help preserve acidity and aromatic lift. The soils are notably granite-rich, giving the vines a natural edge and contributing to the wine’s freshness and mineral feel. The fruit is harvested with care from these small, select parcels, and vinified to emphasize purity, brightness, and the varietal character of Gamay.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wonderfully versatile red for the table, especially with roast chicken, charcuterie, grilled salmon, mushroom dishes, or herb-driven Mediterranean fare. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 14–16°C, to bring out its freshness and perfume. Decanting is not necessary, but a short aeration in the glass can help open up its aromatics.
