Bollinger Champagne Special Cuvée

Bollinger Special Cuvée is the house’s signature Champagne and a benchmark for rich, powerful non-vintage sparkling wine. Though it is Bollinger’s standard cuvée, it is built from a remarkably high proportion of Grand Cru and Premier Cru fruit, giving it a depth and complexity that place it well above the ordinary. Inspired by a historic 1846 bottle discovered in the cellars of Aÿ, it also carries a sense of heritage that reflects Bollinger’s long pursuit of excellence.

In the glass, Special Cuvée typically shows a fine, persistent mousse and a golden hue that hints at its generosity and maturity. The bouquet is layered and inviting, often opening with ripe orchard fruit, citrus peel, and stone fruit, followed by notes of brioche, toasted nuts, and a subtle spice from its extended ageing. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, combining Pinot Noir power with Chardonnay finesse and Pinot Meunier roundness. Expect flavours of pear, apple, lemon, baked pastry, and hazelnut, all carried by a firm, creamy texture and excellent balance. This is a Champagne with strong ageing potential for a non-vintage wine, and it can develop additional complexity over several years in bottle.

Special Cuvée is sourced largely from prestigious Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards across Champagne, which contributes to its depth, precision, and consistent house style. The blend brings together Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier, with reserve wines playing a key role in maintaining Bollinger’s signature richness and balance. The newly designed bottle, inspired by a historic bottle from the Bollinger cellars, is intended to support harmonious ageing by its slimmer neck and elegant shape.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This Champagne pairs beautifully with refined dishes such as oysters, lobster, smoked salmon, sushi, roast poultry, or even truffle-infused dishes, where its structure and depth can really shine. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C to preserve freshness while allowing the wine’s complexity to unfold. Decanting is generally not necessary, but giving it a few minutes in the glass can help reveal its more nuanced aromas.
