Caymus Suisun The Walking Fool Red Blend 2021 is a generously styled, Zinfandel-led red blend with Petite Sirah adding depth, structure, and dark-fruited intensity. Sourced entirely from Suisun Valley AVA—just southeast of Napa Valley—this wine reflects a region with remarkably similar soils and climate, but a far smaller footprint and plenty of character. The name pays tribute to a family story dating back to Jenny Wagner’s great-great-grandfather, adding a personal and historical touch to an already memorable bottle.

In the glass, The Walking Fool shows a deep, inviting color that hints at its ripe, expressive profile. The nose opens with dark cherry, blueberry, cigar box, sweet leather, and a gentle lift of fresh thyme, creating a fragrance that feels both plush and rustic. On the palate, it delivers a lively freshness alongside cherry, black plum, freshly baked bread, and dark chocolate liqueur notes, all wrapped in a soft, approachable texture. Despite its richness, the wine remains easy to enjoy from the start, with smooth tannins and a balanced, drink-now appeal. The 16 months of barrel aging adds polish and subtle complexity, while also suggesting it can continue to develop nicely over the next few years.

Viininvalmistus
All of the fruit for this wine comes from Suisun Valley AVA, a small but promising appellation near Napa Valley with comparable soil and weather conditions. The grapes were matured for 16 months in a mix of American and French oak barrels, a choice that helps shape the wine’s warm spice, structure, and rounded mouthfeel. Winemaker Jenny Wagner has crafted the blend to showcase the valley’s ripe fruit character while keeping the wine approachable and expressive.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a versatile red for hearty dishes such as barbecue ribs, grilled lamb, beef burgers, braised short ribs, or pasta with rich tomato-based sauces. It also pairs well with aged cheddar or other firm, savory cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider a short decant of 30–60 minutes if you want to soften the wine and let the aromatics open up further.
