Château Haut-Brion 1989 is one of Bordeaux’s great historic wines, revered for its seamless structure, monumental depth, and extraordinary longevity. As the original first wine ever sold under a château name in Bordeaux, it carries both immense prestige and a legacy of excellence that few estates can match.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby-purple color that still hints at its remarkable concentration and vitality. The nose is wonderfully layered, with aromas of scorched earth, graphite, liquid minerals, blackberry, blackcurrant jam, toast, licorice, and spice, unfolding with striking purity and precision. On the palate, it is full-bodied, dense, and almost viscous in texture, yet the balance is what makes it truly exceptional. Rich fruit, fine extract, and glycerol are wrapped in a seamless frame, with a majestic symmetry and subtle complexity that continue to evolve over time. This is a wine with exceptional aging potential and, even decades on, it remains capable of delivering a profound tasting experience.

Viininvalmistus
Haut-Brion’s vineyards lie in Pessac, just outside Bordeaux, on a terroir that has long been celebrated for producing wines of rare distinction. The estate’s red vineyards are planted mainly to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, with the 1989 reflecting the meticulous selection and small-scale precision for which the property is known. Harvesting is done by hand according to ripeness, followed by careful sorting, destemming, and fermentation with gradual temperature increase to preserve quality and express the character of the vintage. The best lots are then matured in new oak barrels for 20 to 24 months before bottling.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine deserves classic, luxurious pairings such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, venison, duck confit, or truffle-infused dishes. It is best served at around 16-18°C and should ideally be decanted well in advance to allow its aromatic complexity and layered structure to fully open.

Château Haut-Brion has a history dating back to 1525 and holds a unique place in Bordeaux as the first wine sold under a château’s name. The modern era began in 1935 when Clarence Dillon purchased the estate and restored it to international prominence, establishing it as one of the world’s most legendary wine properties. Today, under the leadership of the Dillon family, it remains one of the most respected First Growths in the 1855 classification and a benchmark for Bordeaux excellence.
