Château Latour 1997

Château Latour 1997 is a polished and expressive Pauillac from one of Bordeaux’s most legendary estates. Known for its balance of power and elegance, this vintage offers a more open-knit and approachable side of Latour, while still carrying the estate’s signature depth, structure, and mineral precision.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-purple colour with mature highlights. The nose is beautifully evolved, offering cranberry jam, blackcurrant, and Latour’s distinctive, intense mineral character, all woven together with subtle earthy and cedar-like nuances. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, refined, and harmonious, with a sweet, ripe entry, velvety tannins, and a graceful, rounded finish. It has the poise to drink well now, but also enough structure to continue developing complexity with further cellaring.

Viininvalmistus
Château Latour’s vineyards sit on a remarkable Pauillac terroir of deep gravel and clay, topped with large rounded stones that absorb and retain heat long after sunset. The estate’s vineyard holdings cover 78 hectares and are planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and smaller proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The 1997 harvest began early on September 8 and continued intermittently until September 25, reflecting the conditions of the vintage and the careful selection behind the final blend, with only 49% of production included.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game birds, and earthy dishes such as mushroom risotto or truffle-infused preparations. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for one to two hours if opening now, especially to allow the aromas to fully unfold.

Château Latour is one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates, with origins dating back to the 14th century, when the original tower that gave the property its name was built during the Hundred Years’ War. Ranked as a Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, it remains a benchmark for Pauillac and Bordeaux as a whole. Since 1993, the estate has been owned by François Pinault, and in recent years it has made a strong commitment to sustainable viticulture, with the full vineyard converted to organic farming from 2015.
