Château Latour Les Forts De Latour 2018

Les Forts de Latour is the second wine of the legendary Château Latour, one of Pauillac’s most celebrated estates overlooking the Gironde estuary. First produced in 1966, it offers a more approachable expression of the château’s power and precision, while still delivering the structure, depth, and pedigree expected from a top Bordeaux. In 2018, an unusually high proportion of fruit that could have gone into the grand vin was allocated to Les Forts de Latour, making this a particularly serious and impressive vintage.

In the glass, this is typically a deep, concentrated Bordeaux with a dark ruby core and promising youthful intensity. The nose opens with classic Pauillac character: blackcurrant, cassis, ripe plum, cedar, graphite, and subtle tobacco, with hints of spice and firm mineral undertones. On the palate, it is refined but powerful, combining Cabernet Sauvignon structure with Merlot’s mid-palate richness and Cabernet Franc’s aromatic lift. Expect layers of dark fruit, graphite, and savory oak notes framed by polished tannins and fresh acidity. While already impressive, the wine should develop beautifully over time, gaining complexity and harmony with a decade or more of cellaring.

Les Forts de Latour comes from the vineyards of Château Latour in Pauillac, where the gravelly soils and proximity to the Gironde provide ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The estate carefully selects fruit by parcel, and in exceptional vintages, a larger share of the finest grapes is used for the second wine, as was the case in 2018. Vinification follows the same rigorous standards as the grand vin, with meticulous sorting and élevage designed to preserve precision, structure, and the estate’s signature style.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, truffle dishes, and rich mushroom-based preparations. It also works well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if opening young, to allow the wine to fully express its aromatics and structure.
