Château Montrose 1990 is one of the great benchmark wines of Saint-Estèphe, a legendary vintage from a property known for power, precision, and remarkable longevity. As the château’s first wine, it is made through rigorous selection at every stage and shows the depth and structure that have made Montrose one of Bordeaux’s most sought-after estates. Makuprofiili
In the glass, Château Montrose 1990 typically shows a deep, inky ruby color with the kind of density that hints at both age and endurance. The bouquet is beautifully layered, offering black fruits, earth, spice, and subtle notes of cedar and graphite, with the complexity expected from a mature Grand Cru Classé.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, yet refined, with rich fruit concentration balanced by firm tannins and impressive freshness. The Cabernet Sauvignon core gives it backbone and length, while Merlot adds a smoother, more supple texture. This vintage is already remarkably expressive, but it still has the structure to continue evolving gracefully for years to come.
Viininvalmistus
Château Montrose is situated in Saint-Estèphe on a single 95-hectare block of vineyard surrounding the château and its outbuildings, an unusually rare and historically significant layout that has remained largely unchanged since the 1855 classification. The terroir is ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, with warm gravel soils over clay that provide both drainage and essential water retention during dry periods. The vineyard is planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot and Cabernet Franc, and the estate is known for strict parcel-by-parcel selection. The grand vin, which represents roughly 35–40% of total production, is aged for 18 months in 60% new French oak barrels.
Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a classic wine for rich, deeply flavored dishes such as roasted lamb, beef Wellington, venison, duck breast, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C to let the wine’s structure and aromatic complexity shine. Decanting is recommended if opening now, especially to give the bouquet room to unfold and to soften the tannins after long bottle age.
