Château Montrose 2009 in magnum is a rare and highly sought-after expression of one of Saint-Estèphe’s most celebrated estates. As the grand vin of Château Montrose, it reflects the house’s hallmark power, precision and elegance, with the 2009 vintage now regarded as one of its legendary releases. Long admired by collectors, Montrose is known for wines with remarkable structure and exceptional ageing potential.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a deeply coloured, concentrated Bordeaux with the kind of intensity you would expect from a great Saint-Estèphe. The bouquet opens with dark berries, cigar box, loamy earth and subtle toasted oak, unfolding with air into something more layered and complex. On the palate, it is full-bodied and broad, yet beautifully balanced, with velvety tannins, impressive depth and a long, resonant finish. The magnum format enhances its ageing potential even further, and while it is already impressive, it will continue to evolve gracefully for decades, gaining extra nuance and finesse over time.

Viininvalmistus
The vineyards of Château Montrose form a rare, single continuous block of 95 hectares surrounding the château and its buildings, an unusually intact estate landscape that has remained largely unchanged since the 1855 classification. The terroir is perfectly suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, with warm gravelly soils over clay that provide both drainage and water retention, while Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot add softness, fragrance and spice. The grand vin is produced through strict selection at every stage, and for the 2009 vintage it was matured for 18 months in 60% new French oak barrels.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with refined, flavourful dishes such as roast lamb, beef fillet, duck breast, game, truffle-rich dishes and mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decanting is highly recommended, especially if enjoyed while still young, to allow the wine to fully open and show its aromatic depth and structure.

Château Montrose traces its origins back to the late 18th century, when it was separated from Château Calon-Ségur. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, it has long stood among the great names of Saint-Estèphe alongside Cos d’Estournel. The estate has earned an exceptional reputation for producing powerful, ageworthy wines that are consistently praised by leading critics around the world.
