La Dame de Montrose is the second wine of Château Montrose, one of Saint-Estèphe’s most respected estates and a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé. This magnum selection from 2012, 2014 and 2015 offers a rare opportunity to experience the character of Montrose across three strong vintages, made with the same meticulous care as the grand vin but sourced from the estate’s younger vines. Presented in its original wooden case, it is an appealing choice for collectors and lovers of refined Bordeaux.

Makuprofiili
La Dame de Montrose typically shows a deep ruby to purple hue, reflecting its concentration and Cabernet-led structure. The 2012 leans into dark cherry, chocolate and mocha notes with a ripe, fleshy texture, while the 2014 is more linear and restrained, offering red cherry, bilberry and crushed violet aromas. The 2015 is the most perfumed of the three, with black cherry, blueberry and floral notes, along with a richer, more generous mouthfeel. Across the trio, the palate tends to balance Saint-Estèphe’s classical structure with a more approachable second-wine charm. Tannins are ripe and polished, acidity keeps the wines fresh, and the Merlot brings softness and supple fruit to the Cabernet backbone. While enjoyable now, these wines also have the composure to develop further over the next several years, with the 2014 and 2015 likely offering the most graceful evolution.

Viininvalmistus
Château Montrose sits on a single 95-hectare estate in Saint-Estèphe, a historically rare and highly prized vineyard layout that allows the property to be managed as one continuous whole. The soils are well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, with warm gravel and clay subsoil that retain enough moisture to sustain the vines through dry periods. Grapes are harvested by hand, then double-sorted, first mechanically and then manually, before gentle pressing and a 25-day temperature-controlled maceration. The wine is aged for around 12 months in French oak, with approximately 30% new barrels, to preserve freshness while adding subtle structure and polish.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, duck breast, game birds, mushroom dishes and slow-cooked stews, as well as hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Manchego. Serve at 16–18°C to bring out the wine’s aromatic detail and balance. Decanting is recommended, especially for younger bottles, to allow the structure to open and the fruit to show more freely.

Château Montrose dates back to the late 18th century, when it was separated from Château Calon-Ségur, and was classified as a Second Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. Alongside Cos d’Estournel, it stands among the top estates of Saint-Estèphe, known for producing powerful, concentrated wines with impressive depth and longevity. In recent years, the estate has also embraced increasingly sustainable practices, including major energy renovations with extensive solar installations, reinforcing its reputation as both historic and forward-thinking.
