Château Mouton Rothschild 1982 is one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated wines, a First Growth Pauillac that has earned legendary status among collectors and critics alike. This is a wine of depth, power, and refinement, shaped by a historic estate whose reputation has long stood at the very top of the region. The 1982 vintage is especially revered for its extraordinary longevity and evolving complexity, making it a benchmark expression of classic Bordeaux.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it typically shows a deep, mature ruby to garnet color with only the first signs of development at the rim. The nose is remarkably layered, offering crème de cassis, ripe blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco, spice box, and subtle floral notes, with the kind of purity and lift that mark a great vintage. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and concentrated, yet still vibrant and remarkably youthful in character. Rich tannins, concentrated dark fruit, and finely woven secondary notes create a multilayered texture, leading to a long, persistent finish. This is a wine with exceptional aging potential, and while already magnificent, it has the structure and balance to continue evolving for decades.

Viininvalmistus
The estate lies in Pauillac, on the Médoc peninsula, where deep gravel soils, a moderating Atlantic influence, and close proximity to the Gironde estuary create ideal conditions for Cabernet-driven wines. The vineyard is planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller proportions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, and the old vines are cultivated with meticulous attention. Harvesting is carried out with great care and the winemaking is overseen by a highly specialized team, with vinification and blending tailored to the character of each vintage to preserve the estate’s signature balance of power, finesse, and longevity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine best enjoyed with refined dishes such as grilled ribeye, lamb rack, venison, roast duck, or beef Wellington. It also pairs beautifully with truffle-infused dishes, mature hard cheeses, and rich mushroom preparations. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant gently if the bottle is still youthful or to help it fully open; older bottles may only need a brief decant or careful pouring to separate any sediment.

Château Mouton Rothschild was purchased in 1853 by Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild, but it was under Baron Philippe de Rothschild from 1922 that the estate became one of the world’s most famous wine properties. He revolutionized Bordeaux by bottling the wine at the château and introduced the iconic artist-designed label tradition, while later overseeing the estate’s rise from Second Growth to Premier Cru Classé in 1973. Today, the estate remains one of the great names of Bordeaux, celebrated for its consistency, prestige, and exceptional achievements across generations.
