Château Mouton Rothschild 2003 - magnum

Château Mouton Rothschild 2003 in magnum format is a striking expression of one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated estates. From the Pauillac appellation in the heart of the Médoc, this vintage combines the grandeur of a First Growth with the generosity and opulence of the warm 2003 growing season. In the glass, the wine shows impressive concentration and a deep, dark garnet colour that hints at its richness. The bouquet is heady and exotic, unfolding with ripe blackcurrant, plum, cedar, tobacco, toffee, torrefaction and dark spices, all carried by a polished, layered profile. On the palate, it is full-bodied, dramatic and velvety, with abundant ripe fruit wrapped around firm yet refined tannins. The wine has notable balance despite its opulence, finishing long with savory spice and toasted notes. While already highly enjoyable, the 2003 Mouton Rothschild magnum should continue to develop beautifully over time as the tannins soften and the bouquet gains further complexity.

Viininvalmistus
Château Mouton Rothschild’s vineyards lie on the gravelly plateau of Pauillac, where deep, well-drained soils and the tempering influence of the Gironde estuary help Cabernet Sauvignon thrive. The estate’s best parcels are planted on classic Médoc gravel, which stores heat and encourages full ripening, while careful vineyard work and selective harvesting ensure only the finest grapes are retained. In 2003, the blend was dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, with harvest completed in a relatively short window between mid- and late September. Vinification is carried out with meticulous precision, preserving concentration, structure and aromatic purity.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with refined, richly flavored dishes such as filet of beef, rack of lamb, game, roast duck or truffle-based cuisine. Mature hard cheeses also make an excellent match. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for at least one to two hours if opening young; for an older bottle or a particularly delicate serving, a shorter decant may be preferable.

Today, the estate remains one of the most admired names in fine wine, celebrated for its consistency, prestige and collector appeal.
