Château Mouton Rothschild 2006

Château Mouton Rothschild 2006 is a true statement wine from one of Bordeaux’s most legendary First Growth estates. Built on Pauillac’s gravelly plateau and shaped by a long tradition of excellence, it combines power, refinement, and remarkable aging potential in a style that has made Mouton one of the world’s most coveted labels. Historically, the estate’s reputation was cemented when it was elevated to Premier Cru Classé in 1973, a long-awaited recognition of its status at the top of Bordeaux.

In the glass, the 2006 vintage shows a deep, opaque purple color that signals concentration and intensity. The nose is classic Mouton: blackcurrant, blueberry, violets, and subtle cedar and oak notes, with a polished, layered perfume that opens beautifully with time. On the palate, it is full-bodied and powerful, yet strikingly pure and precise, with rich tannins, dark cassis fruit, and impressive depth. The finish is long and structured, suggesting a wine built for the cellar. This is a vintage with serious longevity. While approachable with patience and proper decanting, it is expected to evolve over many years, gaining tertiary complexity, softer tannins, and greater nuance with age.

Viininvalmistus
Château Mouton Rothschild sits on the famed Plateau de Mouton in Pauillac, where deep gravel soils, mixed with sand and clay, provide excellent drainage and store warmth from the sun. The estate’s vineyards cover around 90 hectares and are planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot completing the blend. Harvesting is carried out with meticulous selection, and vinification is handled with exacting precision to preserve fruit purity and structure. The wines are aged in carefully chosen barrels, with toast levels adapted to the vintage to support balance rather than overshadow the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an ideal match for equally luxurious dishes such as roast lamb, beef Wellington, entrecôte, venison, truffle-infused dishes, or mature hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for several hours if drinking young to help the wine reveal its full aromatic range and soften the tannins.

Château Mouton Rothschild’s modern story began in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild purchased the estate in Pauillac. Under his grandson, Baron Philippe de Rothschild, the château became one of the most famous names in wine, pioneering estate bottling in 1924 and beginning the tradition of artist-designed labels. From 1988 until 2014, Baronne Philippine de Rothschild led the estate’s continued expansion and modernization, and today the family remains deeply involved. Mouton is celebrated not only for its grand wines, but also for its enduring influence on Bordeaux prestige and innovation.
