Château Palmer Alter Ego de Palmer 2017

Château Palmer Alter Ego de Palmer 2017 is the estate’s second wine, but it carries the unmistakable depth and polish that have made Palmer one of the great names of Margaux. Made from younger vines and aged with a gentler touch of oak, it offers a more approachable expression of the château’s style while still showing real structure, concentration, and impressive aging potential.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet-purple color, hinting at its richness and intensity. The nose opens with vivid aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, and crushed blackcurrant, lifted by subtle notes of Sichuan pepper, menthol, pencil lead, and cardamom. On the palate, Alter Ego de Palmer 2017 is medium-bodied but vibrant and energetic, with bright dark fruit at the core and finely grained tannins that give the wine shape and grip. The finish is long, fresh, and lively, suggesting a wine that can be enjoyed relatively young but will also reward cellaring over the coming years.

Alter Ego de Palmer is sourced from younger vines at Château Palmer in Margaux, Bordeaux, where the gravelly terroir and maritime influence lend finesse, freshness, and aromatic complexity to the wines. The estate has moved fully toward biodynamic viticulture, with careful attention to biodiversity and vineyard health, and the fruit is harvested and vinified with the same precision that defines the grand vin, though with a lighter use of new oak to preserve the wine’s purity and energy.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, duck breast, beef tenderloin, game birds, or mushroom-based dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for about 1 hour if drinking now to help the aromas open fully and soften the tannins.

Château Palmer is one of Margaux’s most respected estates, with a history dating back to 1814, when English general Charles Palmer acquired the property. Since the 1960s, the château has earned a reputation for producing wines of remarkable consistency, power, and elegance, and under Thomas Duroux, who joined as manager and winemaker in 2006, the estate has taken another major step forward. Its full conversion to biodynamic farming and continued pursuit of quality have reinforced Château Palmer’s standing as one of Bordeaux’s most admired producers.
