Chateau Pegau Cotes du Rhone Village Cuvee Setier 2022

Château Pegau Côtes du Rhône Village Cuvée Setier is a standout Rhône red that offers remarkable quality for the price, especially in this vintage. Crafted by Domaine du Pegau in a style that reflects the spirit of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it blends Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre from terroirs that strongly resemble its more famous neighbor. The result is a deeply characterful wine from one of the region’s most respected names.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows a deep, bright red color. The nose is generous and expressive, with aromas of red berries, licorice, tar, pepper, and dried herbs. The palate is full of energy and personality, with ripe fruit, lively spice, and the signature peppery edge that makes Pegau so distinctive. It finishes long and satisfying, with plenty of freshness and grip, and it is drinking beautifully now. While already open and expressive, it should continue to evolve well over the next 7–10 years.

Viininvalmistus
The grapes come from vineyards in the Rhône with soils and exposure that are very similar to those found in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, giving the wine both structure and concentration. The blend is based on 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Mourvèdre. Winemaker Laurence Féraud prefers to press the bunches whole, and the Cuvée Setier is aged in stainless steel to preserve the freshness and purity of the fruit.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for grilled lamb, Provençal stews, roast poultry, sausages, and dishes with herbs and peppery seasoning. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses and rustic Mediterranean fare. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 30–60 minutes is recommended if serving young.
