Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti 2016 is one of the most sought-after Pinot Noirs in the world, drawn from the legendary Grand Cru vineyard at the heart of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy. Revered for its extraordinary purity, precision, and balance, this is a wine that combines immense concentration with a remarkably graceful, weightless feel. Its story is inseparable from the history of Burgundy itself, with the Romanée-Conti vineyard first documented as far back as 1232.

The 2016 vintage shows a deep, luminous ruby core with the kind of elegance that signals both power and finesse. Aromatically, it opens slowly and beautifully, revealing wild berries, violet, peony, black and red fruits, crushed limestone, hedgerow, dark chocolate, cinnamon, bay leaf, and a subtle thread of exotic spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet incredibly satiny, with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and a sense of seamless harmony that builds in waves rather than force. The finish is long, expansive, and delicately complex, leaving a touch of mouthwatering bitterness that adds lift and definition. This is a wine built for very long ageing, and while it is already captivating, it should continue to evolve for decades.

Viininvalmistus
Romanée-Conti comes from a tiny Grand Cru parcel in Vosne-Romanée, one of Burgundy’s most prized terroirs, where the soils and exposition are ideal for producing Pinot Noir of depth, perfume, and remarkable finesse. The vineyard is farmed with meticulous care under organic principles, with biodynamic ideas also influencing the work in the vines, and yields are kept exceptionally low through strict selection and careful canopy management. Harvesting is done entirely by hand, followed by rigorous sorting in the winery; fermentation takes place in traditional wooden vats, with minimal intervention in the cellar to preserve the purity of the terroir. The wine is then aged in new French oak barrels for around 16 to 18 months before bottling.

This is a wine to enjoy with refined dishes that can complement rather than overpower its nuance, such as roast pigeon, duck breast, veal, truffle dishes, woodland mushrooms, or simply prepared game bird. It also pairs beautifully with aged cheeses served in moderation. Serve at around 16-18°C, and consider decanting gently for about 30 to 60 minutes if drinking young, though older bottles may only need a brief aeration.
