Domaine du Pegau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 2017 is one of the estate’s most iconic wines, and in magnum format it becomes even more compelling for cellaring and sharing. Built around a Grenache-dominant blend from the southern Rhône’s famed appellation, it combines depth, old-school character, and remarkable aging potential. Long admired by collectors, this is a classic expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape with real pedigree and presence.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine is deep and opaque, showing the concentration you would expect from a serious vintage of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The nose opens with blackberries, dark plums, black tea, black pepper, fresh rosemary, and thyme, and with air it gains more savory complexity, revealing hints of leather and sandalwood. The palate is powerful yet finely balanced, with dense dark fruit layered over clove, white pepper, and the same herbal notes that carry through from the aroma. There is impressive structure beneath the richness, giving the wine the ability to develop beautifully over the next 5 years and remain at a very high level for 20 to 25 years.

Viininvalmistus
Cuvée Réservée is made from a blend of 13 grape varieties, although it is clearly dominated by around 80% Grenache. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters, then fermented in cement tanks with native yeasts, before the wine spends two years aging in used oak casks. This traditional approach preserves freshness and allows the character of the vineyard, fruit, and vintage to take center stage.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an excellent match for slow-roasted lamb, beef stew, grilled game, duck confit, and rich dishes with herbs de Provence. It also works beautifully with mature hard cheeses or earthy mushroom-based dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for at least 2 hours, especially if opening it young, to allow the wine’s aromatics and structure to fully unfold.
