Domaine du Pegau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 2020 Magnum is one of the great benchmark wines of the Southern Rhône, celebrated for its depth, generosity, and remarkable aging capacity. Built around an old-school blend led by Grenache and rounded out by the region’s traditional varieties, it captures both the power and the rustic elegance that have made Pegau a cult favorite among Rhône lovers.

In the glass, this 2020 shows a deep, dark ruby core and impressive concentration. The bouquet opens with blackberry, dark plum, black tea, black pepper, and a lifted herbal note of rosemary and thyme, before evolving with air into hints of leather and sandalwood. The palate is full-bodied and layered, delivering dark fruit, clove, white pepper, and the same garrigue-like herb character found on the nose. It has plenty of structure and finesse, with the kind of balance that promises graceful development over time. While already compelling, it is built to improve over the next 5 years and should hold at a very high level for 20–25 years.

Viininvalmistus
This wine comes from Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the warm, sun-drenched terroir and famously stony soils help produce ripe, concentrated fruit with strong mineral tension. Domaine du Pegau works in a traditional style: whole clusters are pressed, fermentation takes place in cement vats without added yeast, and the wine is then matured for around two years in used oak barrels, allowing the character of the vintage and terroir to shine through.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
Best enjoyed with richly flavored dishes such as roast lamb, duck, beef short ribs, game, or Provençal-style stews with herbs and garlic. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if drinking young, as this will help open up the wine’s aromatic complexity and soften its structure.
