Domaine du Pegau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve 2012 is one of the estate’s most celebrated wines, and in this impressive 300cl format it has all the makings of a collector’s bottle. Built around a Grenache-led blend with 13 grape varieties in total, it combines richness, structure, and old-school Rhône character in a style that has earned it a loyal following. This is a benchmark Châteauneuf-du-Pape from one of the appellation’s most respected names.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, the wine shows a deep, dark ruby core that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose opens with blackberries, dark plums, black tea, and cracked black pepper, followed by fresh rosemary and thyme; with air, more layered notes of leather and sandalwood emerge. The palate is powerful yet finely balanced, delivering waves of dark fruit, clove, white pepper, and the herbal lift echoed from the aromatics. It has the kind of structure and concentration that promises excellent development over time, and while it already shows plenty of personality, it should continue to improve over the next 5 years and remain in top form for 20–25 years.

Viininvalmistus
Réserve is Domaine du Pegau’s flagship blend, dominated by 80% Grenache and completed by 12 other traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape varieties. The grapes are whole-cluster pressed, then fermented in cement vats with no added yeast, a method that helps preserve authenticity and complexity. The wine is matured for two years in used oak barrels, allowing it to gain depth and texture without overt oak influence.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a natural match for rich, savory dishes such as roasted lamb, beef stew, game, duck confit, or slow-cooked Provençal dishes with herbs and garlic. It should be served at around 16–18°C, and decanting is recommended, especially if opened young, to let the wine fully раскрыt its aromatic complexity and polished power.
