Domaine du Pegau’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve 2019 is one of the estate’s most celebrated wines, and for good reason. Built around a powerful core of old-vine Grenache, with Mourvèdre and Syrah adding depth and structure, it captures the classic richness and complexity that have made Pégau a benchmark in the appellation. Crafted in a traditional style, it also carries the historical character that has long defined great Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, this is a deep, dark red wine with impressive concentration. The nose opens with blackberry, dark plum, black tea, black pepper, and a lift of fresh rosemary and thyme, followed with time by layers of leather and sandalwood. On the palate it is powerful yet refined, showing dark fruit, clove, white pepper, and those same savory herbal notes, all wrapped in a dense but balanced frame. Despite its richness, the wine has a sense of finesse and harmony that promises excellent development in bottle. It should gain even more complexity over the next 5 years and is expected to age gracefully for 20 to 25 years, or longer in a well-kept cellar.

Viininvalmistus
Réserve is a traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend of 13 grape varieties, though it is firmly led by roughly 80% Grenache. The grapes are pressed as whole clusters, then fermented in cement tanks with native yeasts, a method that preserves purity and texture while emphasizing the character of the fruit and the terroir. After fermentation, the wine is matured for two years in used oak barrels, allowing it to develop complexity without overwhelming the wine’s natural balance.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is an ideal partner for hearty dishes such as roast lamb, beef stew, game, braised short ribs, or Provençal dishes with herbs and garlic. It also works beautifully with aged cheeses and richly flavored mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially in its youth, to help the wine open up fully.
