Domaine du Pegau Da Capo 2015 Magnum

Domaine du Pegau Da Capo 2015 Magnum is the estate’s rarest and most sought-after cuvée, released only in exceptional vintages and widely regarded as one of the great wines of the Rhône. Produced in tiny quantities with painstaking selection, it stands as a flagship expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, crafted for collectors and for long cellar aging.

Makuprofiili
In the glass, it shows an inky, near-black core with a vivid purple edge. The nose is intensely layered and aromatic, unfolding with dark plum, blackberry, freshly cracked pepper, liquorice, smoked meat, truffle, crème de cassis, violet, and classic Provençal herbs and spices. The palate is massively concentrated yet impressively balanced, delivering ripe dark fruit, peppery spice, and deep savoury complexity in seamless harmony. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, with the structure and depth to evolve beautifully over many years, especially in magnum format, where its ageing potential is even greater.

Viininvalmistus
Da Capo is made from a rigorous selection of fruit grown across three vineyard sites, with the blend drawn from 13 grape varieties. Grenache dominates the cuvée, supported by Syrah, Mourvèdre and a range of traditional Rhône varieties, all selected almost cluster by cluster. The whole bunches are gently pressed and fermented for around 10 days in cement tanks with native yeasts, followed by two years of maturation in carefully chosen old oak barrels, with minimal intervention throughout to preserve purity and character.

Ruoka & tarjoilu
This is a wine that calls for richly flavoured dishes such as slow-braised lamb, game, beef tenderloin, truffle dishes, wild mushroom risotto, or Provençal stews. Serve at 16–18°C and, given its intensity and structure, consider decanting for several hours if drinking young; older bottles should be handled with care and decanted more gently if needed.
